BusBuddy is an easy to use app that allows users to view bus routes and bus arrival times (both scheduled and predicted) for Ottawa's OCTranspo system.
You can view all the bus stops for given route either in a list or on the map. You can see where a bus is currently located and what time it is expected to arrive at your stop.
A trip planner is integrated into the app, and is also accessible from Apple Maps, which will automatically launch BusBuddy with the start and end location chosen in the map application.
Yellowpage.ca data is also integrated so that you can search for a business (eg. restaurant) and see which bus routes stop close by.
OpenData sources used
- OCTranspo GTFS data
- OCTranspo next bus arrival API
- OCTranspo travel planner
The value it provides to residents
The app makes using the bus system in Ottawa much easier for both regular users and visitors to the city. You can visualize the route a bus will take which takes a lot of the fear out of taking public transit. Using the integrated trip planner, you can easy determine a route back to your hotel using your "current location".
The ability to see the bus schedule and the predicted bus arrival time, allows bus riders to better plan their trips and reduces the stress of wondering when the bus is going to arrive.
This is hands down the best OCTranspo Mobile App.
This bus app has never failed me- it has saved me from SO many cold mornings waiting for the bus because I know the info is accurate so I just leave later. The interface is user-friendly and it tells me everything I need to know. Thank you Bus Buddy Ottawa!
I use this app every day and find it extremely easy to use. The features are better than the other OC Transpo apps I have used, even the official one. The developer did a really good job on this.
This is the best Bus App! It is extremely user friendly and very reliable.
Thank you for helping to ease the frustration!! :-)
Great User Experience, love that it's updated often and I never miss the bus anymore.
Great app, use it everyday. Beats standing out two long in the cold.
What would make it an AWESOME app is if you had n Apple Watch version. Would beat pulling out the phone in the cold
Hi, I downloaded the updated app the other day and was disappointed that you haven't added back the changes to the No. 12 which no longer starts and ends at Daly during rush hour, but which again starts and ends at Slater and Kent. It comes along Wellington when eastbound, and when westbound comes along Albert. Can you please update this - I find it frustrating to have to look for other apps for my information. Thanks, Janet
Hi, once again the No. 12 heading East to Blair has been detoured along Queen Street and will apparently remain on that route until late Autumn this year. I see that there are several other recent updates.
Hope you can update the app soon.
